Ria Novosti news agency quoted Antonov before boarding the plane as saying that following the positive results of the Russia-US Summit, he will work with his American colleagues to build equal and substantial relations with the US. The Russian ambassador revealed his plans to hold several meetings and expected a constructive interaction.
Antonov and US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan were previously recalled to their country for consultations amid deteriorating relations between the two countries. At last week’s Summit in Geneva, President Vladimir Putin and President Joe Biden agreed that the recalled ambassadors will be sent back to their embassies.
