(VOVWORLD) - 30 researchers, academics and other experts began a three-day meeting in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Monday to discuss ways to foster peace and national reconciliation.
The event is co-hosted by the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the Norwegian and Somali governments. It seeks to further Somalia’s conflict prevention and reconciliation efforts, to achieve lasting stability in Somalia, said Michael Keating, the Special Representative for Somalia of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG).
Somalia’s Minister of the Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Abdi Mohamed Sabriye said his government is committed to achieving a lasting peace.
