(VOVworld) – A conference on restructuring the rice sector in the Mekong River Delta opened in Can Tho city on Tuesday.

The purpose of the event was to share information and know-how to help farmers and businesses understand the need to restructure the sector in the area. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said rice production helps to ensure food security, reduce poverty, stabilize society, increase foreign reserves, and contribute to Vietnam’s international integration: “We should focus more on researching rice varieties to increase productivity and economic efficiency. It is necessary to reduce input costs and improve varieties to ensure stable exports.”
