Restructuring Vietnam’s agriculture: from policy to reality

(VOVworld) – A meeting to discuss the restructuring of Vietnam’s agriculture opened in Hanoi on Saturday. Delegates said that public investment should be focused to avoid wastefulness and help farmers in disadvantaged areas have sufficient food. They also agreed that it is necessary to help farmers increase the competitiveness of their products to meet market demand. Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan stressed the importance of industrialization and modernization in agriculture to create more added values: “The science and technology sector will invest more in breeding, techniques, plant protection, harvesting, preservation, processing, and exports. The government considers rice, catfish, and edible and medicinal mushrooms to be national products. Both the government and businesses should invest in these products.”
