(VOVWORLD) - Russia is ready to leave the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), if necessary, and will not wait until the PACE decides to expel it, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday.

Russia joined the Assembly with confidence that it ensures a legal and humanitarian space. This space has been undermined by illegitimate actions that violate the Charter, Lavrov said, adding that the destruction of a pan-European organization to satisfy the ambitions of a few politicians in certain European capitals is unacceptable.
