Russia calls on US to resume talks on weapons control
(VOVWORLD) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Tuesday that the US should resume talks on halting nuclear proliferation and banning weapons in space.

Mr. Lavrov said Washington is pursuing a diplomatic policy that degrades international arms control agreements and increase the risks of “dangerous trends.” He said there is an urgent need for a new treaty stopping weapons being deployed in space after more than a decade of deadlock. It is not too late to stop a conflict in space, Lavrov said, and urged "full-fledged negotiations" on a treaty to prevent the deployment of military hardware in space.
The US and Russia last August abandoned the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty, accusing one another of violations.
