Russia concerned over US’ Maritime Operations Center in Ukraine
(VOVWORLD) - Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee Turi Shvutkin said Friday that the US construction of a maritime operations center in Ukraine is threatening peace in Europe.
Head of the Russian Federation Council's Defense and Security Committee Frants Klintsevich called it an unfriendly move and against Ukranian law. He warned of consequences for both the US and Ukraine.
The US Navy reported Monday that it has launched construction of a maritime operations center on Ochakov Naval Base, Ukraine, which will be used for military exercises. A boat maintenance facility and entry control points will also be built in Ochakov.
