(VOVworld) - Russia has evidence that Turkish troops are in Syrian territory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview on Russian television channel Ren-TV on Sunday. He accused Turkey of a "creeping expansion" on its border with Syria, saying Turkish troops are digging in a few hundred meters from the border inside Syria. Lavrov said Russia insists on asking the UN to include ethnic Kurds in the Syria peace talks despite Turkey’s opposition.
Lavrov’s interview reflected the tensions between Russia and Turkey since a Russian jet was shot down by Turkey’s military along the Turkey-Syria border in November of last year.
