(VOVworld) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied on Monday all allegations that Russian state bodies had a role in an attempted coup during Montenegro’s election last year, describing them as “absurd”. He called for an investigation to find the truth.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected an announcement by Montenegrin special prosecutor Milivoje Katric that Russian state bodies were involved in a plot to assassinate Montenegro's prime minister and overthrow his pro-Western government. Peskov insisted that Russia never gets involved in another country’s internal affairs, especially if it has a sound relationship with them as it does with Montenegro.
Britain's Sunday Telegraph reported that Montenegrin authorities believe Russia was behind an assassination scheme.
