Cameron urged Putin to relieve tension over Ukrainian issues and create an "international contact group" to facilitate direct talks between Moscow and Kiev. Putin agreed that a stable Ukraine would benefit both Russia and the EU, adding that he would discuss the contact group idea with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Also on Sunday, the White House announced a US trip this week by Ukrainian caretaker Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk to address the emerging complications on the Crimea peninsula.
