(VOVworld) – On Friday, Russian officials called on the international community to block IS’s financial sources from sales of oil and other goods.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department for new challenges and threats, Ilya Rogachev, said a number of issues have not been transparent because not every country has fulfilled its international duties including UN resolutions on blocking financial resources for terrorism. He said IS has earned revenues from selling oil and other goods such as antiques, which have been used to buy weapons and recruit fighters. He added that blocking IS’s financial resources requires international cooperation.
The appeal was made following a UN meeting in Geneva on blocking financial resources for terrorism.
