Vietnam and Russia established diplomatic ties in 1950 and elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2001. 11 years later, the two countries became comprehensive strategic partners.
Bilateral ties have been strengthened through the exchange of delegations and meetings at all levels. Two-way trade hit 7.1 billion USD last year, up more than 25% compared to 2020. Russia has 150 projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of more than 950 million USD.
During his official visit to Russia in late 2021, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a Joint Statement on the Vision of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia to 2030.
