(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov talked with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida by phone on Monday about North Korea’s latest nuclear test. Lavrov stressed the importance of respecting UN Security Council resolutions and seeking a political and diplomatic response to North Korea's nuclear test.

Lavrov also talked by phone with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Ji, and the two condemned the nuclear test. China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Beijing has urged Washington to find an effective solution to the North Korean nuclear issue.

Last Friday, North Korea conducted its fifth and possibly largest nuclear test, and said that it had mastered the ability to mount a warhead on a ballistic missile and it will work to increase its nuclear force. North Korea demanded that the US recognize it as a “legitimate nuclear weapons state”.
