In his 30-minute speech, the Russian leader stressed the UN’s role and proposed measures to deal with burning issues in the Middle East, North Africa and Ukraine crisis. Mr. Putin said any action by any country which is not in line with UN resolutions goes against the UN charter and international laws. He added that the world is changing and the UN must be consistent with this natural transformation. Russia is ready to work together with all partners on the basis of broad consensus but any attempt to undermine the authority and legitimacy of the United Nations is extremely dangerous, and could lead to a collapse of the entire architecture of international relations.
After the speech, Mr. Putin will meet with US President Barack Obama to discuss Syria and Ukraine issues.
