(VOVWORLD) - Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov will represent Russia at the G20 summit in New Delhi, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a phone call on Monday.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral ties, including the planned expansion of the BRICS group, which comprises India, Russia, China, Brazil, and South Africa, as well as the upcoming summit.
On the occasion, Putin congratulated India on the successful moon landing of its spacecraft on Wednesday.
The two leaders discussed the development of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the recently concluded BRICS summit in Johannesburg.
They also agreed to maintain close contact as Russia prepares to assume the Presidency of BRICS, a role set to begin on January 1 next year.
