(VOVworld) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev left Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday, concluding his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Medvedev met with Prime Minister Dung, President Truong Tan Sang, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. During their talks, the leaders reinforced their comprehensive strategic partnership to meet the long-term interests of both nations. They agreed to continue delegation exchanges, broaden cooperation between social organizations and localities, and support each other at international forums. Both sides underscored the need to accelerate negotiations toward a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union in the first half of this year, creating an impetus for an expected two-way turnover of 10 billion USD by 2020. The leaders acknowledged effective cooperation in oil and gas, nuclear power, mining, and agriculture.

They reached consensus on peaceful means to settle East Sea disputes with respect to international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), full observance of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and the prompt adoption of a Code of Conduct for Parties in the East Sea.     

During his visit, Mr. Medvedev witnessed the signing of Minutes on expanding and deepening the comprehensive cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party for the 2015-2017 period.
