The 100 vehicles carried more than 1,000 tons of cargo, consisting of building materials needed to rebuild destroyed houses. After crossing border, the convoy landed in two different directions, 60 vehicles to Lugansk while 40 others to Donetsk, two cities held by the Eastern Ukraine’s separatists. Ukrainian border guards and observers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe watched the convoy cross the border. Ukraine and the West suspect Moscow of using alleged aid shipments to send weapons and ammunition to the separatist rebels. Russia has repeatedly denied that accusation.
