“What we want to achieve is a ceasefire, as soon as possible,”  Macron said. This, he said, is the only way to bring negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to a conclusion in order to achieve peace. 

Macron added that the EU will make important decisions on new sanctions against Russia in the next few days. 

Scholz said that decisive steps must be taken towards ending the conflict. He pledged more military and financial support for Ukraine. 

The visit to Germany was Macron’s first trip abroad after his inauguration.
