(VOVworld) – A suicide bombing targeted an army checkpoint in the Lebanese town of Hermel on Saturday killing 3 people and injuring 16 others. An army official was among the dead.

The bomber tried to drive his car passing the army checkpoint near Syria. When asked for an identification card, he detonated a bomb attached to his body. The Al Nusra Front in Lebanon, with links to Al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack in retaliation for Hezbollah’s intervention into the Syrian crisis.
The Lebanese Prime Minster and the UN have described the bombing as a terrorist act.
