Sea and island sovereignty protection missions fulfilled
(VOVworld) – The Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a meeting on Monday to review its performance in 2014 and set tasks for the next year. Participants agreed that fishery surveillance forces fulfilled their task of protecting Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty. In 2014, they organized many patrols to monitor offshore fishing activities, support fishermen, and assist marine search and rescue activities. The surveillance forces cooperated closely with the Vietnam marine police and other forces to protect Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty when China illegally placed its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf earlier this year. The Directorate of Fisheries has set as key tasks for 2015 enhancing its supervision and control to protect seafood resources and supporting offshore fishing activities.
