UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo denounced a recent Israeli attack on al-Tabeen School in Gaza City, and called on all parties to end escalatory rhetoric and actions to avoid an even greater catastrophe.

DiCarlo reiterated UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' remarks condemning the continued loss of life in Gaza following another attack on a school sheltering hundreds of displaced Palestinian families.

Chinese Ambassador to the UN Fu Cong said Beijing urges the US to persuade Tel Aviv to stop killing civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said the Security Council should consider solutions that could help ease tensions in Gaza, such as a joint inspection of the territory.

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said the overarching US goal in the Middle East is to de-escalate. That goal, she said, should start with an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip.
