(VOVWORLD) - US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister for Asia Sun Weidong on Friday, says the US State Department in a statement.

The two senior diplomats had a candid, in-depth, and constructive consultation on regional issues, the latest in a series of recent talks to keep lines of communication open between the world’s two largest economies.
They emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication in areas of disagreement and potential for cooperation.
The two sides exchanged views on respective policies. The US Assistant Secretary of State highlighted the US Indo-Pacific Strategy. High on the agenda were also regional issues, including Myanmar, North Korea, and maritime matters.
Kritenbrink reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
