Singapore and Thailand enhance their cooperation in the ASEAN Economic Community
(VOVworld) - Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan began a two-day visit to Thailand on Monday at the invitation of Thailand’s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

Mr. Balakrishnan said that Singapore and Thailand should work more closely to promote intraregional trade and greater connectivity in the ASEAN Economic Community. The two countries plan to cooperate in dealing with environmental issues, food security, and agriculture. On Monday, Balakrishnan also met Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Minister Somkid Jatusripitak. Thailand was Singapore's ninth-largest trading partner last year with two-way trade turnover of 21.5 billion USD. The Bank of Thailand ranked Singapore the second largest investor in Thailand and top investor of ASEAN community. Singapore's investments in Thailand are predominantly in financial and insurance services, manufacturing, and trading.
