The drive is part of activities to mark 62 years of the Day for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Vietnam, August 10.
The chemical war conducted by the US military exposed 4.8 million Vietnamese people to Agent Orange/dioxin while more than 3 million others have suffered from fatal and other incurable diseases as a consequence. Many of their offspring also suffer from birth deformities.
Despite the State attention and support, AO victims still face numerous difficulties both materially and spiritually.
Addressing the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, VAVA President, called on people nationwide to continue joint efforts to relieve AO pains by texting a message DA CAM to 1409 through the mobile phone to donate 20,000 VND or 85 US cents each to the fund.
“The proceeds of the campaign not only illustrate the love and responsibilities of the community to AO victims, but also help Vietnamese people and international friends better understand the Vietnamese Agent Orange disaster and the Party, State and people’s efforts to overcome the consequences of the chemical war caused by the US military. Let’s send messages to support AO victims,” said Mr. Rinh.
The program will run through September 19.
