(VOVworld) - Former CIA contractor Edward Snowden warns that US intelligence officials continue to collect information on American citizens.  

In a recent public appearance, Snowden described how the US intelligence community gathers the information. 

Snowden’s revelations came as the US Congress is poised to vote on an amendment to the US Patriot Act which was passed following the September 11 attacks to increase the power of US security agencies.

According to analysts, Snowden’s new warning is likely to trigger a strong US public reaction.  

Washington has faced international and domestic criticism since Snowden leaked details of US spy program in May 2013, including spying on the state leaders of US allies.
