South Korea to participate in NATO-led cyber defense exercise

(VOVWORLD) - The South Korean military will participate for the first time in the world's largest combined cyber defense exercise led by NATO.

According to Seoul's Cyber Operations Command on Monday, an eleven-member team is participating as a partner country in Cyber Coalition 2023, set to take place in Estonia from Monday through Friday. South Korea, which attended last year’s event as an observer, will send 3 soldiers to participate in the exercise in person, while 8 other soldiers will participate online.

This year's drills will focus on sharing threat information and coming up with the most effective response to a simulated cyber-attack on national infrastructure.

At a meeting in Lithuania in July, South Korea and NATO signed a cooperation agreement called "Partnership program tailored to each country", fostering cooperation in 11 areas, including anti-terrorism, nuclear non-proliferation, and cyber defense.
