Spain’s El Pais newspaper has quoted Spanish police investigation as saying that the rail accident on July 24 on the outskirts of Santoago de Compostela city is caused by the driver failing the brake when driving faster than the speed limit. Initial reports showed that the train was travelling at more than double the speed limit of 80 km per hour at the time of the crash, which driver Francisco Jose Garzon Amo has admitted. Spanish police arrested him on Friday for charges of carelessness that caused an accident with many deaths.
