Special attention should be paid to production facilities, says Deputy PM as COVID-19 infections spike

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has urged localities to pay special attention to COVID-19 prevention at production facilities, industrial parks, hospitals, markets, and shopping malls as the pandemic spreads more quickly in enclosed, crowded places.

Mr. Dam made the statement at Monday’s meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control which took place amid a spike of infections in Vietnam. Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said the presence of new variants, particularly the Indian variant, has made the current outbreak more complicated.

"The Indian variant spreads quicker than the UK variant. The Center for Disease Control has found that almost all people in contact with a SAR-COV-2 carrier in an enclosed, air conditioned space contracted the virus. We have to prepare for a worse scenario", said Minister Long.
COVID-19 has been reported in 26 provinces and cities across Vietnam. More than 3,400 cases have been detected in Vietnam so far including 419 community infections recorded since the latest outbreak hit the country on April 27.
