(VOVworld) – The 7th boat racing festival has opened in Krong Ana district, Dak Lak province to welcome spring and to celebrate the 84th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The event is also in response to the Central Highlands-Da Lat National Tourism Year 2014. Approximately 450 athletes participated in the tournament.
Tran Van Phuc, a local resident, said: “The people of Krong Ana are very excited. We have come to watch and to cheer for the athletes. Although the weather is hot, the audience is large. The spectators and the athletes are all fairplay.”
In Tay Ninh, thousands of people from HCM city, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and other western provinces have come to attend the Ba pagoda festival. The pagoda is considered one of the most holy sites in the southern region, which consists of a great number of grottos and shrines.
In Bac Ninh, the fire cracker procession festival in Dong Ky village attracted thousands of local people and pilgrims. Two giant crackers, decorated with dragon and phoenix patterns were carried from the traditional house to the communal yard.
A festival called “going to the field” festival will take place in Doi Son commune in Ha Nam province on Wednesday. The purpose of the festival is to pray for a bumper crop and favorable weather conditions in the New Year. It also honors the contributions of farmers and the importance of agricultural production.
Tran Dinh Tien, deputy head of the organizing board, said: “We will organize a cake making contest and announce the communes that have reached the new rural development criteria. The rituals will include a water procession, performances and the promotion of agricultural and industrial products.”
Traditional folk games will also be held during the festival.
