(VOVworld) - Sudan and South Sudan have reiterated their commitment to dialogue and negotiation to settle difference. The decision was made following talks between the two Vice Presidents in Khartoum on Monday.

Both issued a joint communique in which they reiterated their acceptance of the proposals of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel regarding the current stalemate between the two countries. Under the proposals, which aim to avoid an oil crisis, the demilitarized zone on the ground will be maintained under the supervision of the UN Peace Keeping Force while a mechanism will be set up to consider both countries’ accusations over supporting armed groups.

The two also reiterated their commitment to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each state, normalizing and promoting bilateral relations and operationalizing mechanism for the implementation, the monitoring, and evaluation of dispute resolution related to the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreements signed in Ethiopia in April.
