According to Kabul Police spokesman Khalid Zadran, the victims, including one woman, were all civilians. Investigations are underway, and no group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
While violence in Afghanistan has decreased since the Taliban regained power in August 2021, ending a two-decade conflict between foreign forces and Islamist insurgents, the regional branch of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, known as Islamic State Khorasan, remains active and frequently targets civilians, foreigners, and Taliban officials with gun and bomb attacks.
