Swimmer Vo Thi My Tien has been granted a wildcard to compete in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, according to an official notice from the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
Tien will compete in the women’s 200metre individual medley at the games, the category in which she has had the best performance in international championships since 2023.
This will be her first-ever participation in an Olympic Games. Tien, 18, is currently the leading female swimmer of Vietnam in the Olympics’ ranking.
She will be Vietnam’s second swimmer in the 2024 Paris Olympics, following Nguyen Huy Hoang who earned his official ticket at last year’s Asian Games in China.
To date, 15 Vietnamese athletes have qualified for the games.
