SANA reported that UN organizations, the Syrian Red Crescent and the International Red Cross would be involved in delivering the aid. The Syrian government announced that it would establish a fund to restore areas in Syria that were severely affected by Monday’s devastating earthquakes.

UN rights chief Volker Turk called Friday for an immediate ceasefire in Syria to facilitate the delivery of aid to the quake victims.

The same day, the second UN humanitarian aid convoy carrying electric heaters, tents, blankets and other items, arrived in northwestern Syria, through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing. This is enough to supply about 1,100 households.

The UN World Food Program (WFP) called for the opening of more aid points at the Syria-Turkey border amid the depletion of food aid in northwestern Syria, where 90% of the population depends on humanitarian assistance.

Maenwhile, NATO allies agreed to deploy fully-equipped semi-permanent shelter facilities to Turkey, in order to help accommodate people displaced by the earthquakes, the alliance said in a written statement. The shelters are equipped with a number of amenities including heating, power generators, and medical treatment areas.

As of Friday night, the earthquakes had killed more than 24,000 people in Turkey and Syria. At least 870,000 people are now in urgent need for food after the quakes, which have left up to 5.3 million people homeless in Syria alone, the UN warned.
