Syrian government, Kurdish forces reach agreement on entering Afrin
(VOVWORLD) - The Syrian government on Sunday reached an agreement with Kurdish forces in northwest Syria to enter and defend the Afrin region where Turkish armed forces are launching air and ground operation Olive Branch.

Badran Jia Kurd, an adviser to the Kurdish-led administration in northern Syria, said ground troops would deploy along some border positions and could enter the region within the next two days. He said the agreement was purely military and included no wider political arrangements.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the agreement with Damascus on Afrin is aimed at preventing Olive Branch operation, adding talks are still ongoing between both parties on outstanding points including the administration of Afrin and the presence of Kurdish forces with all their weapons in the area. Experts said if Syrian armed forces support Kurdish fighters in Afrin, the Kurdish people will probably benefit from the situation on the field.
