Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders win Idaho, Michigan primaries

(VOVworld) – On Tuesday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz won the Republican presidential primary in Idaho, adding a seventh state win to his tally in the 2016 White House race. With 43.7 percent of votes in support, he left behind his rival Donald Trump, who earlier on Tuesday won the day's two biggest prizes — the primary elections in Mississippi and Michigan.

The same day, Senator Bernie Sanders won the Democrat presidential primary in Michigan, claiming victory over Hillary Clinton in the industrial Midwest state. But despite his close win, he won’t see any real gains in delegates from the night. And Clinton has now earned more than half of the 2,380 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination. With 130 Michigan delegates at stake, Sanders won 63 votes while Clinton got 52. Next week, the Democrat Party will vote in Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and Florida and those primaries will be held for another 691 delegates.

Billionaire Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential caucuses in Hawaii, adding to his victories earlier on Tuesday in Michigan and Mississippi.  With his victory in Hawaii, Trump took the lead with 45.1 percent of all the votes.
