(VOVworld) - The US Senate has approved Ted Osius as the new US ambassador to Vietnam as his predecessor David Shear has ended his term. Ted Osius was confirmed to his new position during an oral vote at the US Senate on Monday night, said a spokesman from the US State Department, Jeff Rathke, at Wednesday press briefing. Ted Osius was nominated for the position by President Barack Obama in May. Osius was most recently a professor at the National War College and a senior expert at US Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is an experienced diplomat who has worked in many countries in Asia including Indonesia, India, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam, for most of his 25 years in the Foreign Service.
