According to Yingluck, this is the best solution for Thailand’s current situation. She stressed that political instability could hurt the Thai economy, especially the tourism industry. The same day, thousands of Thais continued to protest in Bangkok, demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation. An opposition representative said this is the first march of a campaign to shutdown Bangkok on January 13. A representative of the ruling Puea Thai party warned against blockading Bangkok, which could cause Thailand to suffer economic damage worth 200 billion Baht. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Surapong Tovichakchaikul reminded the protestors that blockading Bangkok is illegal and protest leaders will face prosecution.
