The World Bank is along with Vietnam’s development

(VOVworld) - Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong expected further exchanges of experience with the World Bank in economic reform and management, poverty reduction and social development. He told visiting World Bank President Jim Yong Kim in Hanoi on Thursday that he hoped for more technical and financial assistance from the bank. President Kim said Vietnam has successfully combined socialist targets with market economy and pledged more cooperation with Vietnam.

Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and President Jim Yong Kim had a discussion about economic reform, energy security, and further credit support from the World Bank for Vietnam. President Jim urged Vietnam to promote institutional reform, private sector development and equal support for the poor to ensure rapid and sustainable growth.

Prime Minister Dung applauded the World Bank’s decision to allocate nearly 4 billion dollars from International Development Association scheme from now until 2017, making Vietnam the 2nd largest IDA recipient in the world: “This reflects the World Bank’s recognition, trust and support for Vietnam’s renovation. The Vietnamese government treasures and commits rapid and most efficient use of the capital. I believe that both sides will uplift development partnership to a higher level and the World Bank will be Vietnam’s trustworthy friend along our development path.” 

President Jim Yong Kim hailed Vietnam’s development experience as a successful story that should be shared internationally. He pledged further cooperation with Vietnam as the country moves towards a middle-level industrial country. Both leaders then witnessed the signing of a preferential loan agreement worth 876 million USD for 5 projects to help Vietnam in national economic competitiveness, energy, urban development, healthcare and climate change.
