Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide were among the attendees.
The theme of the opening ceremony was to convey the message of wings that can rise, have dreams and hope. The opening ceremony celebrated togetherness and bringing out the best in one another.
More than 4,400 athletes, the largest number of participating athletes ever, from 161 countries and territories will compete in 539 events in 22 sports, two sports more than the previous Games. Badminton and taekwondo are introduced for the first time in the Paralympics.
Seven athletes of the 15-member Vietnamese sports delegation will compete in three sports: swimming, weightlifting and athletics.
As Tokyo, the host city, is being in a state of medical emergency, the Japanese Government has not allowed foreign and domestic spectators to come to the competition venues to cheer on the athletes.
