Trade surplus hits more than 15 billion USD in 7 months

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has enjoyed trade surplus of more than 15 billion USD since the beginning of this year, up 1.3% over the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).

30 export items earned over 1 billion USD each. 5 of them fetched more than 10 billion USD.

The US was Vietnam's largest export market and China was Vietnam's largest import market.

In the past seven months, Vietnam's trade surplus with the US was estimated at 44.3 billion USD, down 24 % over the same period last year, and its trade surplus with the EU was 16.4 billion USD, down 11.9%.

According to a GSO representative, many key export products are facing difficulties because of a sharp decrease in global demand.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that trade promotion in the near future will target new markets and potential markets such as India, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe as well as those less affected by inflation like ASEAN countries.
