(VOVWORLD) -Tran Thanh Man, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, was elected by deputies on Monday as Chairman of the National Assembly.

With "yes" votes from all 475 attending deputies, the Assembly passed a resolution on Man’s election as the Chairman of the legislature in the 2021-2026 tenure.
Taking an oath before the National Assembly and voters nationwide, the newly-elected top legislator said, “Under the Fatherland’s sacred red flag with a yellow star, before the National Assembly and voters nationwide, I, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, swear to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and strive to successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.”
Afterwards, National Assembly Chairman Man expressed his honor and pride in the great responsibility entrusted to him by the Party, State and people.
“I am always deeply aware that no matter what position I hold, I am always steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, steadfast in the Party's reform policy to guarantee the highest national interests and the legitimate rights and interests of the people. I vow to devote myself to serving the country and the people," he said.
"I will keep improving the quality of the National Assembly's activities and together with the party diplomacy, state diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, continue to strengthen foreign affairs, promote democracy, solidarity, openness, and transparency, and build a truly rule of law state of the people, by the people and for the people."
Tran Thanh Man was born in 1962 in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang. He earned a PhD degree in Economics and a Bachelor degree in Politics.
He was an alternate member of the 10th Party Central Committee; member of the 11th, 12th, and 13th Party Central Committee; Secretary of the 12th Party Central Committee; Member of the 13th Politburo and deputy of the 13th, 14th and 15th National Assembly.
Man held the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee from 2011 to 2015. From October 2015 to April 2021, he successively held the positions of Vice President and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
In April 2021, Man was elected as Vice Chairman of the 14th National Assembly and assigned as Permanent Vice Chairman of the legislature. In July 2021, he was re-elected as Vice Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.
