(VOVWORLD) - Travel companies gathered at a conference in Hanoi on Tuesday to seek measures to promote tourism and attract 13 million foreign visitors – the target set for this year.

Participants stressed the need for infrastructure improvement, personnel development, simplification of administrative procedures, and tourism promotion.
The tourism sector contributed significantly to high economic growth in the third quarter. As of September, Vietnam had welcomed 9.5 million foreign visitors, up 28%. The number of domestic travelers during this period was 58 million. The sector earned 16.5 million USD, 26% more than last year.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai urged the tourism sector to work to achieve a 30% foreign arrival growth rate. To reach the target of 13 million foreign visitors this year, travel agencies need to attract 3.7 million more travelers.
