Trilateral summit between South Korea, US, Japan marks “new milestone” in trilateral relations

The event represents the first time that US President Joe Biden, his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will hold an official joint summit – beyond the less formal talks that have been held on the sidelines of international gatherings.
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the leaders will discuss shared priorities such as economic security, emerging technologies, humanitarian assistance and development programs.
The three leaders are scheduled to release a joint statement and a separate document outlining the principles of the trilateral cooperation.
The summit is expected to focus on joint institutionalization. It is also a suitable time to foster further trilateral relations, especially since Japan and South Korea have seen a breakthrough in their diplomatic ties after territorial and historical differences had affected their security and trade relations.
