His appeal followed a unilateral cease-fire declared by the Syrian government. At a conference in Turkey’s Konya province, Kalin said Syrian government forces must immediately halt their attacks in Idlib. He added that the Idlib deal should be actualized without delay, warning that another humanitarian crisis is on the horizon if a political solution is not agreed upon.
Russia announced on Friday that Syrian government forces will cease fire in Idlib at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning and Russia will supervise the new cease-fire. The Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria said in a statement that the cease-fire is meant to stabilize the situation in Idlib. It called on anti-governmental militias to give up their armed provocation and participate in peace talks.
