Sunak pledged to cut taxes, protect voters' pensions, and reduce immigration. On the issue of immigration, Mr Sunak announced that Britain might withdraw from the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) if the government's plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is hindered.
On the issue of climate change, the Prime Minister said he had made "bold" decisions so that Britain would still meet its obligations, while protecting the budgets of struggling families.
Starmer pledged to resolve the problem of striking medical staff, recruit teachers to solve the labor shortage in the education sector, and increase some specific taxes, such as the tax on private schools, while eliminating the non-resident tax regime. Mr. Starmer defended joining the ECHR convention, saying Britain needs to be respected on the international stage.
In addition to Tuesday's debate, Starmer has agreed to participate in another debate with Sunak on June 26 in Nottingham. Prime Minister Sunak wants to have at least 6 debates before next month’s general election. The latest public opinion poll showed the Conservative Party leading the Labor Party by about 20 points.
