Ukrainian President approves bill granting self-governing status for eastern regions
(VOVworld) – The Ukrainian Parliament on Tuesday approved a bill granting special self-governing status for the next 3 years to Donetsk and Lugansk, paving the way for Ukraine’s decentralization.

The bill proposed by President Petro Poroshenko aims to end a 5-month military conflict in eastern Ukraine. The bill includes amnesties for anti-government protesters, recognition of Russian as an official language, and holding local elections on December 7th.
The same day, the Ukrainian Parliament also adopted the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement. President Poroshenko said this is the first significant step toward EU member status.
