(VOVworld) - British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday that the UK will not hastily hold a referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union if no agreement is reached between UK and EU leaders at the bloc’s summit in Brussels next month.  In his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Cameron said he hopes a deal would be reached before the referendum is held so he could encourage British people to stay in the EU.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls told the forum that it would be a tragedy if the UK left the EU, adding that there should be a deal, but not at any price.

The Brussels meeting in February will discuss Prime Minister Cameron’s proposals for EU’s reform including plans to freeze in-work benefits for EU migrants.
