(VOVworld) - Governments around the world should offer at least 480,000 places for Syrian refugees over the next few years, while they have so far pledged 170,000 places for a total of 4.8 million Syrians fleeing to Syria’s neighbors.

UN refugee chief Filippo Grandi made the announcement on Monday on the fifth anniversary of the start of the Syrian conflict. Grandi promised to raise the issue at an international refugee placement conference on March 30 in Geneva.
Since the conflict erupted in Syria, there have been 6.6 million Syrians seeking shelter inside the country and hundreds of others fleeing to Europe.
