UN calls for Israel and Palestine to refrain

(VOVworld) – The UN and international mediators have called for Israel and Palestine to refrain against escalating tensions which are threatening the Middle East peace process.
In Friday press conference, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, expressed his hope that Israel and Palestine will find a solution to complete the negotiation within 9 months as scheduled. The UN called for both sides to control their acts and take responsibility toward boosting peace talks.
In regards to the efforts of the UN, the EU, the US, and Russia, Haq noted that the negotiation aims to reach a comprehensive agreement on the final status of each side.
The peace talks stalled after Israel and Palestine blamed each other on its failure. On Friday, Palestinian authorities said they would not give up peace negotiations with Israel.
