(VOVworld) - United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called Monday for the international community to increase assistance for the 2.5 million people displaced by violence in Iraq.

Ban met Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, President Fuad Masum, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, and parliament speaker Salim al-Juburi during a visit to Baghdad, and also addressed the Iraqi parliament. Ban expressed his concerns about "allegations of summary killings, abductions, and destruction of property perpetrated by forces and militias fighting alongside Iraqi armed forces".
